PRESS STATEMENT OF ASEAN CSPOEPR CHAIRPERSON AND DILG OFFICER-IN-CHARGE CATALINO S. CUY ON THE LAST DAY OF 31ST ASEAN SUMMIT
November 14, 2017
The second and last day of the Philippines’ hosting of the 31st ASEAN Summit went by smoothly today. There were no disruptions to the events scheduled for the day, all because the public cooperated and our troops were vigilant and observed existing police protocols.
Compared with yesterday when the patience of our troops and their strict adherence to police protocols were tested, with some of them even getting hurt in the process, today was relatively manageable and calm.
We are optimistic that the remaining events for the rest of the day and the other activities tomorrow will turn out perfectly as well.
Just the same, the ASEAN Committee on Security, Peace and Order, and Emergency Preparedness and Response (CSPOEPR) and the ASEAN Security Task Force (ASTF) will continue to monitor all developments and ensure that all troops are as snappy, alert, and committed just like when we began planning for this event until the plan’s actual execution this week.
We remain confident that until all the delegates and guests shall have departed the country, we will register zero crime incident because this is the main goal and the very reason why we in the CSPOEPR are working 24/7.
But as we are getting closer to the finish line, we should not become complacent. They say that it is when the goal is within one’s reach comes the gravest challenges that will put all of your plans, skills and determination to a test.
And so as we are about to reach the finish line, let us not let our guards down. Let us sustain our momentum and run to the finish.
With all the preparations that we made, we are confident more than ever that we will reach our goal with great pride and victory. And several days after this event, we can look back and say that we are all privileged for this opportunity to serve our country and make our country proud.
Thank you very much.
